1955 Spillers formed United Bakeries to take over the baking interests of the group. United Bakeries pioneered the use of a single brand name in baking, in this case Wonderloaf[1]

One of the principal subsidiaries was Wonder Baking Co

1957 Acquired Montgomerie Bread Company[2]

1965 Acquired Frears and Blacks, bakers, of Leicester[3]
